आज समूचा विश्व अपने नम्र मतों से बस एक ही सुर को पिरोते हुए, हमारे भारत में पैदा हुए एक विश्व-स्तरीय सर्व-श्रेष्ट बल्लेबाज़ की विदाई में तल्लिन है| ...और अब तो तय है की ब्रिटिश धरती पे जन्मा यह खेल, भारतीय मानसिकताओं पे अपनी धाक इस तरह जमा लिया हो मानो, ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य का सूरज फिर अपने सुसुप्त ओपनिवेशिक चमक को बिखेर रहा हो| समय के गाल में कितने रहशयों का जमावरा है, इसके लिए लियोनार्दो दा विन्सी से आगे बढ़ प्राइयरी ऑफ साइयन के करीब जाने की ज़रूरत है, जब इस सीक्रेट ग्रूप के सदस्यों ने ही आगे चल दुनिया को अपनी बनाई धूरी पे चलने की ओर अंगीत किया| तेंदुलकर के सन्यास की विदाई को एक विहनगम योगी के मौन हो जाने की रूप का ज़िक्र जितना भारतीय इनोसेंट और एमोशनल भाव का परिलक्षण है, उतना अमेरिकन मीडीया द्वारा इस विदाई को महात्मा गाँधी से जोड़ कर दिखाना एक छनिक मानसिकता का परिचायक भी| फिर तो हम आज बस मीडीया जगत को ही जीते हैं, पीते हैं, खाते हैं... और निर्मूल सो भी जाते हैं... और वो अपनी कॅन्सरस पावं पसार कर हमें भीतर ही भीतर खोखला बना चला जाता है| फिर इस बीहड़ में बहार लाने की कवायद कैसे हो, की कहीं सच की बात करने वाले को विषपान न करना पड़े... शैक्चनिक ताकतों को भिक्षाटन का मार्ग ना अपनाना पड़े... अपने राज्य की ऊर्जा को किसी दूसरे राज्य की ऊर्जा ना बनना पड़े| अब ज़रूरत है, हमें विश्व के आईनो से हटकर अपने रास्तों को सुगम बनाने की... की आने वाली नस्लें भी अपनी मिट्टी की छटाओं में अपनी ऊर्जा को बिखेर सके.. अपने जीवन को उकेर सके... मेरे राज्य बिहार की भी एक रणजी टीम हो, जिसका कोई खिलाड़ी देश के लिए अपने राज्य के नाम से भी खेल सके.... नाम के साथ बस राज्य जुड़ा हो... राजनीति नहीं...!!
बिहार की पुण्य पावन धरती पे जन्म लेना ही बड़े सौभाग्य की बात है, और तो और जब जन्म-स्थली अपने नेपाल और बांग्लादेश से सटे सिमानचल का पूर्णिया डिस्ट्रिक्ट हो तो| पूर्णिया का रिश्ता फूटबाल और क्रिकेट जैसे खेलों से वर्षों से रहा है| एक जमाने में यहाँ अँग्रेज़ी सल्तनत अधीन बनाए गये राजा रजवाड़ो के कारण क्लब क्रिकेट की धूम मचा करती थी| क्रिकेट ही नहीं यहाँ वर्षों पहले से गोल्फ और पोलो जैसे रईसी ठाठ वाले खेल भी खेले जाते रहे हैं| पूर्णिया का प्राचीन नाम पुंद्र-वर्धन था... और इसी पुंद्र-वर्धन में भारत की ओर से १९८३ की वर्ल्ड कप खेलने वाले एकमात्र बिहारी कीर्ति-वर्धन भागवत झा आज़ाद का जन्मसन् १९५९ को पूर्णिया में ही हुआ था|फिर बाद में इन्होने अपनी राहें देल्ही की ओर की, भारत के लिए भी खेला और भी राजनीति की ओर मुखर हो गये|
फिर मेरे जीवन काल में मैने एक होनहार क्रिकेटर के उदय को देखा, नाम था मनीष वर्धन सिंह| ये बात १९९१-९२ की है,जब उसकी बॅटिंग देखने दूर-दूर से लोग आते थे| वो हमारे पूर्णिया का सचिन तेंदुलकर ही तो था| फिर उसका चयन आज के भारतीय कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धौनी के साथ झारखंड की रणजी टीम में हुआ| फिर आगे चल वो झारखंड रणजी टीम का कप्तान भी बना| रन बनाने के साथ एक बार अपनी बोलिंग से सौरव गांगुली सरीखे विश्व-स्तरीय बल्लेबाज को आउट करने का गौरव भी हासिल किया|

इस विवरण का उद्देश्य बस इतना है की प्रतिभा यहाँ कूट कूट कर भारी है, लेकिन उचित और नियमतह संसाधनो की कमी से हमारी प्रतिभा या तो देल्ही, झारखंड या अन्य राज्यों की ओर रुख़ करती है| ये हैरान करने वाली बात है की आज के वेस्ट-इंडीज टीम में १५० टेस्ट खेलने वाले शिव-नारायण चंद्रपॉल के पुरखों का रिश्ता भी बिहार के पूर्णिया जिले से ही है|
फिर भारतीय टीम के पूर्ववर्ती विकेट-कीपर सबा करीम का पैतृक घर भी पटना ही है, और इनके भाई भी एशियन बेस-बॉल में सिंगापुर/ होंग-कॉंग जाकर १९९४-९५ में भारत का नेतृत्व कर चके हैं |

US media compares Sachin Tendulkar's exit to Mahatma Gandhi's death
An op-ed in the 'New York Times' likened Tendulkar's retirement from cricket to the death of Mahatma Gandhi. Says he is the most revered since India's father of the nation.
New York: Cricket may not be too big a sport in this part of the world but leading US publications have nonetheless paid tribute to retiring Indian superstar Sachin Tendulkar, applauding the veteran batsman for his "supreme" talent and a career lived with soft-spoken integrity and humility.
"This week, for more than a billion people, the world as they know it effectively comes to an end. The second Test match between India and the West Indies ...will be the last international appearance of one Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar," a Wall Street Journal article titled 'Farewell to Cricket's Little Master' said.
An op-ed in the 'New York Times' likened Tendulkar's retirement from cricket to the death of Mahatma Gandhi."As the moment of his (Tendulkar's) departure looms, the country is in the fevered throes of one last, mammoth celebration, but also on the un-self-conscious brink of mourning," the NYT op-ed piece titled 'Where the Gods Live On ... and On' said.
The joy of Tendulkar is that he doesn't seem to have changed much between 1989 and 2013. He still unites the game's constituency in admiration, and he still exudes the same sense of soft-spoken integrity-in a quarter-century at the top of the game, he has attracted only the mildest controversy, and only very rarely. He has never even really said anything that you could quote back critically at him," it said.
Tendulkar has been accorded the status of god by his millions of fans across the world, an emotion echoed in the NYT op-ed which said "some Indian gods have three heads, or 10 arms. Others have serpents coiled around their torsos, or rivers streaming from their heads. And one, Sachin, wields a sacred cricket bat, heavy, sweet, made of the finest willow.
"In a land of chronic inefficiency, he was remorselessly efficient; in a land with a global inferiority complex, he was the best in the world; in a land where public figures are strutting peacocks, he was often a picture of painful humility; in a land that thirsts for self-respect, Sachin spelled pride."
Tendulkar "will be irreplaceable for every cricket fan; a tiny man who leaves the most massive of holes, he is cricket's greatest ever superstar," it said.
The WSJ article also touched upon Tendulkar's decision to retire late in the day saying the "endless rolling hoopla" around his retirement "can get a bit deafening." "Ultimately, his latter-day drop in form will be forgotten; a couple of years don't mean much in the context of a 24-year career so magnificent. There is also no reason to assume that he held on so long for reasons for personal vanity-why would he, when he has nothing left to prove."

The time was right because of the Little Master’s last Test and also “because there are a number of anniversaries and one of the anniversaries today is that it is 100 years to the day (November 13) that the famous poet Tagore received the notification of his Nobel Prize”.
Asked by students whether Tendulkar would be given a knighthood, Cameron said: “Sachin Tendulkar’s mother-in-law is British, so his children could play cricket for England! What is great about Sachin Tendulkar is not just the record, though it is an extraordinary record, I also think that as a sportsman he is an extraordinary role model for young people. But the knighthood system is not entirely within my control.”
